Natural Plant Dyeing Project
This week, for the first time in my life, I experienced Eucalyptus dyeing. Oh, what fun, though it was a lot of work!
It was so exciting at each step, from washing the dried leaves to hanging the dyed cloth on hangers. I could not hide my awe at this miracle; that the Earth gives us such colors. In April, my favorite Eucalyptus tree was cut down. The event was shocking, and I have gone through deep grief for months. Lately, its old, dead leaves sitting in the corner of my garden looked like nothing more than rubbish to visitors. But to me, they were still a precious part of my favourite tree—and now, they have given me such a beautiful gift.

I now make a humble bow to Mother Earth for giving us such a rich variety of shades from them. It is amazing how completely dried plants, which people so often dismiss and throw out, actually hold wonderful value. They are true treasures. Through this transformation, the Creator has serenely reminded me to rethink the way we look at the world, and at each other.
As the days went on, my project gained more and more colors. What a surprise it was to see such a beautiful variety of shades emerge from the exact same dye bath!
I still feel a lot of pain from missing this tree. However, during this busy dyeing work, I was filled with a deep gratitude for God. I felt the sun shining strongly from high above in the sky, and that feeling connected me directly to ancient people and their odes of homage to God in the Old Testament.
